Every Halloween season for many years now Halloween at High Noon has released an album of ambient spooky tunes that just doesn’t sound quite like anything else out there. Some albums tended more towards creepy soundscapes, but they’ve always mostly been musical.
“Haunted”, however, is not “musical” in the least – but that’s not a bad thing! Featuring 13 tracks, “Haunted” is a sonic journey through a haunted landscape. Each track has its own distinct flavor, and they collectively offer (as always) an interesting blend of original composition, drones and sound samples from all sorts of sources, all brewed together to cook up something genuinely creepy.

It’s a good week to be a lover of Halloween. Not only does today see the wide release of Witching Season Films’ “They Live Inside Us”, but on top of all the other recent Halloween musical releases we’ve posted about lately, “They Live Inside Us” comes complete with a fantastic spooky score by Randin Graves, available right now at https://randingraves.bandcamp.com/album/they-live-inside-us-original-score
Personally I enjoyed the score so much (this is Chad, btw) that I just bought it for pure listening pleasure – later I’ll actually get to see it in action in the movie. But as I listen to the score while writing this, it exists solely as an album, and it’s a great blend of moody macabre music, spooky synths and quiet, contemplative creepery – very mood-evoking and perfect for the season!
