Halloween Musical Mayhem with Sean Keller & Friends!

Sean Keller, co-writer of Hulu & Blumhouse’s ALL THAT WE DESTROY and composer/creator of SLASHED! The Musical, has created two albums of Halloween music – “The Killer Sounds of Halloween” (2019) and “Return of the Killer Sounds of Halloween” (2020). Here’s the thing, though – while both albums present as compilations assembled from very different bands, it’s actually all Sean & Friends creating the music, featuring an impressive array of sounds, styles and genres. Some tracks are obvious parodies of old favorites, while other tracks could easily become old favorites all on their own!

I found myself chuckling along to the Monster Mash-ish “The Monsters Trick or Treat”, where the classic movie monsters realize they can get away with Trick or Treating without being discovered, or the melancholy-yet-hilarious ballad “Renfield’s Lament” in which Renfield soulfully begs Dracula to come take him away.

On the flip side, some of these tracks just straight up rock. “Shine (Theme from Blood Kiss)” belongs squarely in the same wheelhouse as True Blood’s “Bad Things” or Suck’s “Flesh & Bone”, and would be at home in any vampire-themed mix. “We Summon the Darkness” has a classic hard rock vibe that put me in mind of Fastway’s tracks for 1987’s “Trick or Treat”.

I’ve listened to all the tracks a few times now and find that they grow on me more each time. Both albums are available at https://seankeller2.bandcamp.com/ and highly recommended!
