Rhode Montijo is Looking for Kickstarter Feedback & Ideas…
Halloween artist and mysterious figure Rhode Montijo has a ready-to-go book called 31 Jacks, but self-publishing is a tricky business, so he’s looking for feedback and ideas about Kickstarting it on his Instagram account HERE. Here’s what he’s after, in his own words:
Your feedback and suggestions are needed! I’m hoping to self-publish my new book 31 JACKS and am considering doing a Kickstarter, BUT this would be a new thing for me and I need your help with suggestions!
First, 31 JACKS is a book that collects 31 Jack-O’-Lantern people paintings, each accompanied with short story per character, but with an overall folktale that binds them. I actually tried to have 31 JACKS published last year in time for Comic Con, but it was more expensive than I thought. I’m hoping to do a nice long format book with interior tear-away perforated pages, so that the paintings/pages could double as prints- which I’m excited about. Since I was hoping to publish this last year, the book is fully designed. It was designed by my good friend and amazing designer @eyelooksee (PEN PENCIL STENCIL) and publishing is the next step! Since I’ve never done anything like this, I wanted to see if you might have any suggestions or if you know someone who has published a book with Kickstarter? What works? What should I watch out for? Some tips I’ve heard from friends are to not underestimate shipping costs and that if I do stretch goals, to maybe relate it to the book- like adding upgrades to the book quality. Any suggestions or warnings would be much appreciated. Ideas for stretch goals would be appreciated, too! Thank you so much for reading.-Rhode ✨🎃✨
